death by coffee...

In the past, I've managed to stop myself from being a full-pledged coffee addict. In fact, prior to this week, I haven't been drinking much coffee. Probably, on average, I'll be drinking about less than a cup in a month!

But now, as a result of the boring week-long Oracle DB Admin training and endless late-night chatting, I needed to resort to drinking coffee again in order to survive the rest of the day.

And since I'm not used to that much caffeine in my system, my heart starts to palpitate after the 2nd cup. But does that stop me from drinking a 3rd and 4th cup? Nooooo...

I'm soooo dying young.

I AM BORED...

...VERY BORED...

procrastination can be bad for you and your guitar's health...

Today's a typically boring Sunday. I actually have a ton of chores to do like cleaning-up my room, fixing my closet, and buying some groceries, but it's raining heavily outside. (connection?, hold your horses, here it goes...)

This kind of weather just makes me want to lay around and slither ever so slowly around the house. Rainy days and sunny days have this effect on me. Which basically means I am always lazy! :)

Ever the great procrastinator, instead of starting today's task, I decided to do other "unlisted" things today. So basically everything I DON'T need to do, I opted to do... I'm just crazy like that.

After lunch, I ate a caramel bar at the slowest possible pace. The way I was nibbling it would make a mouse die of hunger (or impatience, which ever comes first). I also read a newspaper... LAST WEEK'S newspaper, at worst! And to seal the deal on how boring this day is, I watched *gasp* the History channel!

After watching "Lost Worlds: Herod the Great" on History Channel, I snapped out of my trance and realized that I just wasted a good few hours of my life. (But at least now I know that Herod has built the most lavish and most advanced bath houses known in ancient times... Now if only I can use this knowledge to rule over the world?!)

Still looking for useless things to do, I saw my guitar standing innocently in one corner. I decided that I should play around, and by play around I mean, make really annoying noises.

Everything sounded terrible, and thus only 2 possibilities:
1. The guitar is not tuned properly.
2. I suck.

As my big ego is keeping me warm from all of these cold and rainy weather, I decided that it's reason #1.

So reciting my "Eddie Ate Dynamite, Good Bye Eddie" code over and over, I miserably attempted to tune my guitar.

"Eddie Ate Dynamite, Good Bye Eddie" is the code I use to tune the strings of a guitar. Each letter corresponds to the note of each of the strings. E is for the top most, thickest string, A, the second, D, the third, and so on. I'm pretty sure there are more non-violent codes out there, but I am obviously sticking to this one! :)

As I was about to finish tuning the last "Eddie" string, I heard a very familiar sound... Oh shoots!!! I snapped the string?!?! (am I really that violent??)

Oh great... Now I have to find my spare strings and change the one I snapped. Now I have to do something I actually NEED to do! darn it!!!

After a few minutes of tossing stuff out of my closet and drawers, I finally found my spares:

After re-stringing, I tried playing again, but it was still horrendous, which, again, gives us 2 possibilities:
1. The other strings hate the new one.
2. I really suck.

I love myself too much to admit to #2, so here's what I think:

The other strings just hate the new one's guts.

So now I gonna have to re-string the whole damn thing! And oh, yeah, my room is still in disarray (especially, after searching for the spare strings) and now I'm hungry and I have nothing to eat since I haven't bought any groceries yet! And it's still pouring outside!

Lesson learned (aside from random facts about Herod) :
STOP PROCRASTINATING!!!
(OR stop tuning your guitar and admit that you suck :) )

move it people! crazy person rolling-through!

Writing a new year's resolution on the 3rd week of January seems late, but since I'm in Singapore, my new year will start on the 7th (or 8th) of February. (Chinese new year, that is) So technically, this post is way early! (see, there's always a good reason for being late for something!... just make sure you use the word "technically" to make it sound valid... and smart!)

For the past years, there have been several "to-do lists" for the new year. But this year, for brevity's sake (coupled with the all-too-usual laziness to write) my resolution is simply this: "to dare to do things I have never done before"

As early as I can recall, I've always been comfortably playing on the "safe-side" of things. And as much as I hate to admit it, I'm one hell of a boring person!

Ok, let me rephrase that, I'm an awfully mentally-deranged "interesting" person, living a terribly boring life.

Seriously, my idea of fun on a weekend is staying at home, watching movies on TV while laying on the sofa and eating delivered food...Yes, yawn if you must, i will take no offense...

But a new year is coming, and therefore, the forces of nature (and peer-pressure) dictate that I do something different with my life! So, in light of this new mantra I will live by, I had this insane daring idea last week to buy this:

I know, i know, I should have included a disclaimer like "dare to do things I've never done before, provided that it will not cause bodily harm and earthquakes", but then again, where's the fun in that?!

:)

OMG! I'm a man!!!

I'm a dude!!!

No, I did NOT realize this while standing naked in front of a full-length mirror this morning. (my deepest apologies for the mental image this might have given you)

This was based on hacker factor's gender guesser. (Yes, I have nothing else to do with my time, bite me!)

I entered 3 past blog entries and got a 3 out of 3 "dude, you're a big burly hairy man" result. (well, they did not exactly phrased it that way... although it would have been more fun if they did...). Actually, they said I was a "weak Male". That's probably their "politically correct version" of a "girly-man".

Now how sad is that... It's bad enough that they think I'm male, they have to add insult to injury by putting in "weak". They also added "Weak emphasis could indicate European.". Aha... so they do mean "girly man"... hehehe...

Slightly Off-Topic: This reminds me of some online game I saw not so long ago wherein you're shown series of pictures and you have to guess: "Gay guy or Euro-trash". (Yes, I kill too many braincells for stupid things... in my defense, I WAS young... hehehe...)

Going back...

Before I rant any further (and hurl a few inanimate objects around the house), the website did indicate a few disclaimers:

Many factors can impact the interpretation from any single person's writing. The
content, knowledge of the material, age of the author, nationality, experience,
occupation, and education level can all impact writing styles. For example, a
woman who has spent 20 years working in a male-dominated field may write like
her co-workers. Similarly, professional female writers (and experienced
hobbyists) frequently use male writing styles. Gender Guesser does not take any
of these factors into account.

--> I grew up in a household full of men... does that count? (Yes, I'm trying to justify the result... I'M NOT A MAN!!!!)

Pasting the same text multiple times will not change the results!

--> mwaaaahaaahahaha... I actually tried doing this before I even read this part in the "author's notes"... It's the skeptic in me... (and I'm pretty sure alot of people did this too...:) )

And most importantly: This is an ESTIMATE. Please do not email me about
instances where it made the wrong determination. (I've seen it generate
incorrect results lots of times already.)

--> is this supposed to make me feel better? or is it just the author's way of avoiding raving lunatics like me from spamming him? I'm guessing both... hehehe...

my everyday funny things

I was waiting for my collection to reach 10 before I share them, but I am way too bored so I'm doing it now...

#1
When you hear a conversation that's something like this:
Saleslady: "Yes, what do you want?"
Customer: "Malay ko!" (I wouldn't know!)
You'd more or less expect a word fight to break-out between those two. But not here in Singapore, especially when you're in this "Siopao Store".

Ma Lai Ko I think is some pastry? I guess if you'd ask me, it's safe for me to say "aba, malay ko?!"

#2
Because this blogpost is about funny things, of course it wouldn't be complete without any "remember-to-mock-jas-statements". So jas, this one's for you! (peace!)

mock the duck! mock the duck! mock the duck!

#3
I like going around in bookstores, even when I don't intend to buy any book. I find a certain sense of peace doing it. But somehow this one trip I had to the bookstore didn't do that...
Does anyone remember laughing while reading "A Walk to Remember" or "The Notebook" ? Hmmnn... I guess they find it funny... ???
the "humour" section in a bookstore

#4
One factor to consider when moving here to Singapore is the food. Sadly, there is no Jollibee outlet here yet. You know why? Because when Jollibee tried to cross from Philippines to Singapore, poof! he turned into a bean...

i was told that this store is NOT at all related to jollibee, so forget the bee-to-bean fairytale I told you. (shame on you if you believed it though! hehehe...)

#5
Need to wipe yourself clean? Try...

tekla... hhmmmn... i wonder how it smells... :)

#6
And looking at #5 reminded me of an old picture I shared a few posts ago...

it's like having chicken pox minus the chicken pox!

I received a phonecall last week from the HR dept. of my new company. My employment pass has been approved by M.O.M. and all I need to do is just undergo the standard medical examination. She also informed me that my first day of work is on October 1. Whaaaat?!!! That means I have another two weeks to be a bum. But the thing is... I'M BORED!!! I want to work! --> I never thought I'd say that at any point in my life!

Two weeks?!! what the hell am I gonna do in that span of time?

I don't want to go out... I'm too lazy... And besides, there's really no point of going around too much, it's not like I'm on vacation... I'll be here for a really long time. I'm afraid if I go out too much, I'll exhaust the excitement out of whatever interesting place there is on this little island.

I'm tired of reading books, technical books atleast(the only ones they have here in the flat). I'm currently reading "Mastering Unix". IMHO, they should have named it "Unix for Beginners" instead. It covers too many topics but doesn't go in-depth on what's really going on. Too broad, but awfully shallow, and damn heavy as well! Good book for those who are new to Unix and wants to be acquainted to what it can do, but if you're already a professional with a few years experience with unix/linux systems and would want to know what's really going on when you execute a command, go get yourself another book (perhaps a lighter one, unless you want more muscles...).

Now, going back to my rants...

I'm tired of watching TV with really lame news. It's my 45th day and I still haven't heard a single mention of any killings in the news... c'mon! that can't be possible! Not that I'm praying that some bored person go on a killing-spree or something(I think I'm the only bored person around here anyway)... I just find it hard to believe that no one has been committing those kinds of crimes. Perhaps the news agencies aren't just reporting them??? --> just goes to show how much faith I have in goodness of mankind!

I've cleaned the house, did all my laundry, ironed all of my clothes(even those that don't need ironing!), uploaded pictures in my flickr account, installed my VM in this PC, read every blogpost i'm subscribed to (even clicking "refresh" all to often), and now i have absolutely ran out of something to do!

Oh! It's dinner time! Now I have something to do! --> pathetic eh?

Funny how a few months back, I was ranting about not having time for myself...
ah! humans!... what complex and often discontented creatures! especially this one.

To Cut or Not To Cut... researched version

Given that im bored, i tried searching for hairstyles that i might like.

I stumbled upon the Stellure Website which gives you a free analysis of your face shape and the appropriate hairstyle for you. You have to sign up though, so prepare your "for-spams-only" email addresses. Once you have signed up and filled up the questionare, several 3D model hairstyles are generated. Since i've decided to keep my hair short, these are some of the styles generated for me:

1. Everyday Layered Bob

Trim Period: 6 Weeks

Styling: Towel dry hair and then apply a styling product such as mousse. Either leave hair to dry or blowdry. Finish with a shinning spray and a light hairspray hold.

Maintenance level: low

Styling time: 5 to 15 minutes

--> i would never classify a hairstyle as low maintenance if it uses a styling product. my definition low maintenance = shampoo + conditioner + water + let-the-bus-do-the-drying.
If im going to sport this hairstyle, that means i have to buy a mousse, a shinning hair spray, and a light hairspray hold. low maintenance you say? I will never buy a mousse, unless it's the kind that has chocolate in it... yum!

2. Choppy Two-toned Bob

Trim Period: 6 Weeks

Styling: Blow dry 80% of moisture out, apply a light smoothing cream, using a small round brush take the hair in sections and curl the hair around the brush, hold in place and apply heat for 10 seconds then move away. Repeat twice. Slide brush out.

Maintenance level: Medium

Styling time: Allow 30 minutes to achieve this style at home or for a special occasion allow your stylist 40 minutes in the salon.

-->first of all, coloring my hair is not an option. i like it black. period. and what? i need to have a stylist? i actually have to hire a stylist to make me look like i just woke-up after a night-long party? what the hell is a light smoothing cream?

3. Razored Uniform Layers

Trim Period: 6 Weeks

Styling: Blowdry using a radial brush. Flick out ends to create the effect. Or used large hot tongs and dress out when finished. Finish with hairspray.

Maintenance level: Medium to High

Styling time: 30 minutes

-->forgive my ignorance, but what is a radial brush? forget that, how about tongs?, "hot tongs" to be precise... are those the kind you wear?? why then would i need it for my hair?? yeah... looks like i need a stylist....

4. Short crop with textured fringe

Trim Period: 5 weeks

Styling: Blast your hair dry at the roots with a hairdryer. Make sure you create as much volume as possible. Add the texture to the style with styling paste and hairspray.

Maintenance level: low

Styling time: Allow around 5 to 10 minutes to do your hair at home. When you go to the salon allow 1 hour and 45 minutes (including color)

--> okay, lets assume for one minute that a decent employer would give me a job given this hair... seriously... does this look like the kind of hair that would fit my bubbly personality? (where "bubbly" is used sarcastically) Why do i get this feeling i'd be involved in gang wars if i'd get this hair...

after all the search, im still quite lost. it seems like every year, i say to myself that i should get a different kind of haircut. but each time i sit in the salon chair, i find myself saying "trim lang please". why can't i stop playing safe??? i tell myself that i should try taking risks... but is taking risks the same as having a 50% chance of getting a really bad haircut? all this mumbling for a stupid haircut... i must be really bored...

To Cut or Not To Cut

6 days of no work has taken it's toll on me...

i'm bored, and now i'm turning against myself, or more specifically, against my hair. i'm really not the one to take utmost care of my hair... i think it's quite obvious. i find fixing ones hair too tedious... in fact, the mere act of "beautifying" oneself is too tiring for me. i have no idea how these "kikay" girls have the energy to do the things they do to themselves. im not saying stop taking a bath or brushing your teeth... im just saying, can't we just stick to the basics... ain't the hygiene stuff not enough? just saying...

anyway... back to my hair...

my dad tells me i should cut it, mom tells me don't, my kuya on the other hand couldn't care any less. and i am just completely clueless as to what to do.

if only being a bald woman isn't so frowned upon... how i'd love to be one...
